It is not only about style: experience, technical clarity, management, communication, and decision-making structure matter as much as the formal result.

Choosing an architect

Do not choose only by image or quick references

Architecture is visible in photographs, but it is really decided through meetings, documents, technical capacity, and judgment. Choosing an architect only because of attractive images or a superficial recommendation often leaves out the factors that truly determine whether the process will work well.

What matters is whether the studio can structure the project, detect risks, and translate your needs into a realistic strategy.

Look for experience aligned with your type of commission

Designing a single-family home on a complex plot is not the same as renovating an existing building or carrying out an interior refurbishment with strong constraints. It is worth checking whether the studio has experience with commissions similar to yours.

That alignment does not guarantee the result, but it reduces improvisation and improves decision quality from the start.

Clarity of process matters as much as design

A strong studio does not only present ideas. It explains process, timing, limits, risks, and pending decisions clearly. This matters even more in Mallorca, where regulations, permits, topography, or existing conditions can heavily shape the project.

If the initial phase already shows order and judgment, the rest of the commission usually rests on a much stronger base.

What to assess in a first meeting

In a first conversation, it is worth observing whether the studio listens well, asks relevant questions, understands the context of the commission, and proposes a reasonable roadmap. It also matters whether there is a shared level of rigor and a compatible way of working.

At BAU, we approach housing, refurbishment, and technical interventions through a mix of design, management, and construction rigor. If you are comparing studios in Mallorca, we can review the starting point of your commission and see whether there is a good fit.
